Latin name
Russula paludosa
Materials

An edible mushroom collected in many parts of Europe and Asia. Like many Russula species, it lives in partnership with tree roots.

Where does it live?

Grows on the ground in moist pine forests, often among moss.

Where the spores form

Gilled. Spores develop on thin plates called gills. Look underneath the cap for many thin, blade-like plates.

Did you know?

The cap of this mushroom may look smooth and strong, but its flesh is surprisingly brittle. If you snap it in half, it breaks cleanly like a piece of chalk instead of tearing apart.
