Coral fungi add beauty to the forest, but some species are difficult to identify. Young mushrooms are considered edible. However, due to their similarity to poisonous relatives and the potential for error, picking them is not recommended.

Where does it live?

Grows on the forest floor among leaves and moss.

Where the spores form

Smooth. Spores develop on a fairly smooth spore-bearing surface. Some fungi in this group have very shallow wrinkles or folds, barely visible.

Did you know?

Instead of growing a single cap, this mushroom branches again and again, forming a shape that looks like underwater coral. You may see many related species of Ramaria in the same forest, differing in shape and color, but it is always a branched mushroom.
